The Nuclear Crisis in Fukushima Japan

The nuclear crisis in Japan escalated as a third explosion in four days rocked the struggling power plant in the country's stricken north-east, according to its nuclear safety watchdog. Tokyo had already called in international help to tackle the escalating crisis.

Non-essential technicians were evacuated from the facility after radiation levels around the Fukushima No 1 power plant briefly rose four-fold in the wake of the blast, which appears to be the most serious to date.

Japan Issues Tsunami Warning After 7.2 SR Earthquake

A tsunami warning of up to 50 cm was issued for northeastern Japan, public broadcaster NHK reported.

Tohoku Electric Power said its Onagawa nuclear plant was operating normally after the quake. Tokyo Electric Power also said there was no impact on its power plants in the region.

Tiger Mount Merapi Hovering

Tigers from the slopes of Mount Merapi seen wandering Karanganyar Hamlet, Village Ngargomulyo, Shaman District, Magelang regency, Central Java, since two nights ago.

"It's been two nights in a row we know there are signs of leopard presence in our village," said Chief Hamlet Karanganyar, Thursday (47) in Magelang, Monday.

He claimed to ensure animal sounds on Thursday (13/11) and Friday (14/11) night was a tiger.

In fact, he says, on Thursday (13/11) night he had shined the flashlight to a tiger in a corral near the local people when he was patrolling.

Flash Flood in Wasior

 President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will visit the flood disaster area in District Wasior, Wondama Bay, West Papua, to determine whether the accident was caused by illegal logging of forests around.

"Next week I'll see immediately whether there is a link with environmental damage even if it's there," he said at a news conference at his office here Friday.
